Water Tourism Destination Hanumantiya Island

Hanumantiya island is a newly introducted water tourism destination in Madhya Pradesh. It is near to Khandwa town. Hanumantiya island is developed and promoted by Madhya Pradesh Tourism. The name “Hanumantiya” is derived from local village name. According to State Tourism Department this region is suitable for water tourism activity. The whole water tourism project is developed over Indira Sagar Dam. Indira Sagar Dam is a multipurpose project at Central India. It was built on Narmada river. This Project was started in year 1984 by Prime Minister but main-dam construction started in year 1992. It was finally completed in year 2003.


Hanumantiya Island Attractions

Indira Sagar Dam forms a huge lake. Hanumantiya is developed to exploit the backwater of this dam. It offers accommodation, restaurant and boating, cruise ride facility on backwater. For accommodation, only one hotel is available. Surrounding area of dam is also good for nature tourism which includes bird watching, mammals sighting. While visiting the Indore Tourist Circuit, one can include this water tourism destination also.

How to Reach

By Air:

Nearest airport for reaching is Indore Airport, it is about 150 kms.

By Railways:

Nearest railway station is Khandwa railway station. Distance from Khandwa railway station to island is just approx. 50kms.

By Road:

For visiting this island site, best option is to reach Khandwa town first and then proceed further. At the same time Indore.

Best Time to Visit

Hanumantiya island is accessible throughout the year. Here main activity is boat ride which is possible when dam will have sufficient water level and there is no rainfall. So according this peak summers and monsoon season should be avoided which means October to April is the best time to visit this destination. During this period, climate remains clean and dam will have good amount of water in reservoir.
